Welcome to the Piedmont  British Motor Club

Statesville, North Carolina

This website is dedicated to members of the Piedmont British Motor Club and all the other British car enthusiasts who enjoy working  on  their cars, meeting other owners and, most of all, driving their LBCs along North Carolina’s beautiful roads.

The Piedmont British Motor Club will not meet

Tuesday, July 29th

Hi Folks,

So-in my never ending quest to look for a unique ride for my daily driving pleasure I recently tried out the new "Smart Car." It was not a good test ride for me. Sitting in the car wasn't bad, it felt a lot like being in a VW. After driving an MG it was actually quite roomy. In fact it felt a little "bigger" as a I drove down the road dodging all the SUV's. The Smart car has a very small engine with an automatic transmission; unfortunately there is no manual option. So when it is shifting from one gear to the next, there is definitely a short lag before it engages, with a concomitant loss of acceleration. This works fine for a bigger engined car, but in this car it a very unnerving feeling. As you try to cross an intersection you’re hoping it won't shift before the onslaught of all the cars waiting at the light challenge you to get out of their way. I didn't bring the little puppy home but went dutifully back to getting my MGB on the road. It was a nice diversion though!

 Safe Driving Everyone!

Finlay Park, Downtown Columbia SC

Last year's show had 115 cars and was our first year.  We are anticipating 150 cars this year.  We had bagpipe players, our local oldies radio station playing old British music throughout the day.  Awards were given out to the club with the greatest participation, hard luck award, most creative oil leak, longest traveled, 1st, 2nd and 3rd to each class that had three pre-register.  We will have several food vendors. It is located in beautiful Finlay Park which is downtown Columbia, SC.   This park has plenty of space, a lake and some pretty water features.  There will also be a hospitality room party the night before the show on Oct. 4th at the host motel The Hampton Inn, Vista location in Columbia, SC.
